My time on Google not the norm of other surfers

I ran across this blog via Scobleizer’s blog article “Big gadget sites don’t link to blogs – with updates”, its a blog called – The Last Podcast . This blog had an interesting post about time we spend online and where. I myself never ever stray from Google, can’t stand MSN, Yahoo, or any of the others for searching. Now, I admit I have had a Yahoo email account since at least 1996, while I was at EKU. And I do like their egroups ( because no one else has made a better alternative yet) but for surfing and all my other Internet activity…. its Google all the way.

I remember the first time I saw Google; in the Library at EKU some time back in 1996 or so. I recall thinking “wow, that is some cool looking search engine”. At that time, for my internet surfing at home, I was still stuck using Lynx ( the text only browser) for surfing the Internet. Do you remember LYNX? (Surprisingly, I found the webpage for an older download from 2004, but I do not know if this still works.)

The chart is surpising to me, 39% of the pie chart is broken up as follows:

11.9% is Myspace ( Does not anyone see how absolutely horrid that site is?) In my opinion, WordPress is the only way to blog socially, but one cant load tons of crude on there.

8.5% is Yahoo.com ( to me, Yahoo as a search engine just seems a bit archaic, but that is just me and I am no geek)

3.7% each for MSN and Ebay ( another surprise is that eBay is not higher!)

Google ranks in at 2.1 %, slightly above AOL! This seems wrong for some reason. I just thought everyone one used Google, I mean look at the perks they give their employees! I had originally thought a few months ago that the place to work was Yahoo, the campus is great, the whole place looks like a bunch of really happy people. Then we see the report on CNN today, where the Googlers get free meals, pools, massages etc! How can they be doing that, if they only rank in at 2.1 % of the users? Why would high dollar advertisers use Google with numbers like that?
Where did the chart came from, who compiled it, what was the ranking criteria?

Okay, found the website – Complete.com Blog- and they explain where they get the numbers from in the article here.

If you are interested in number crunching, this is the article for you; too much FAQs for my tiny, tired brain tonight 🙂 I am glad to have found this original post from The Last Podcast, as it has lead me to a new blog with new information, and I believe learning new things is very important ( even if I can not always understand the info)

New Free Design Templates available at OpenDesigns.org

If you have never taken a look, opendesigns.org has some of the most gorgeous and well laid out templates bar none. These designers are a cut above the norm seen on the net! You can join if you are a designer, search for templates if you need one, and all are free to use. I personally use these templates to learn CSS and HTML, as well as how to “design” websites that have real class. I think you will love these templates, but also the folks there are nice and helpful so check it 0ut 🙂

Diary of a Mad Black Woman

Well, I finally saw Diary of a Mad Black Woman, and it was really really good. It was not the movie I had expected it to be, the trailers were full of funny highlights. This movie has some parts that are funny, some are sad but the best thing about this movie was , it was full of hope and honesty. God was present in this movie, but until the end it was a subtle presence.

I had soooo wanted Helen’s ( played by Kimberly Elise) husband to pay for what he did, not very Christ like, I know  But he was so darned mean to Helen! ( Yes, I know…. no excuse). But toward the end, when Helen was giving him back what he gave her, well she was not so good a Christian either, she was a human. Her mother, played by Cicely Tyson was great to see again. I have not seen her in anything since the late 80s I think.

Helen’s husband (played by Steve Harris) was the exact opposite of his character on The Practice. The only real reason I know about his character on that show, is that it is on right after Angel in the am. I feel bad that I was rooting for him to get his, I never expected Helen to go a teensy bit of the deep edge for a few days there, she was scary. I can see her point, but I felt bad when he was drowning in the tub. In reality, when you have been run down by someone ( man or woman) there is a time for some of us, when we feel we would/could to something to get back at them. I thank God I have not gone that far against anyone who has hurt me in my life.

Helens mother tells her that to forgive sets us free, to not forgive lets that person we are so angry at have a power over us. I believe this. I am not perfect in this respect, but I work on it daily. I have someone in my life now, who should be the closest person to me, but they hurt me very bad. But I will work to forgive her, for her sake and mine. I only wish it were easy to do, I guess everyone at one time or another has this problem.

If you are looking for a movie that is NOT full of sex and violence, and has a good message at the end and is entertaining, I suggest this one. I was happy I saw it.

Youtube users getting ‘napsterized’ by FOX

The Hollywood Reporter online states that FOX is asking for the names of those who apparently uploaded copies of recent episodes of 24 and the Simpsons to Google owned You Tube Video website. The subpoenas were filed under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act

Apparently a user of YouTube identified as “”ECOtotal” is suspected of uploading the episodes of 24 well before its Premier Air Date of January 14th, 2007; with the episodes showing up on the service on January 8th. Some of the Simpsons episodes were from season 7 this reports says, but one dated all the way back to 1990. I personally do not see why FOX is so upset, from what I have seen the few times I have been to the site, the quality of the videos are terrible, grainy and hard to view; you would not be able to watch and enjoy these or want to put them to DVD.

Just my opinion  in any case.

Blogjet works!

This is very good, I am already in love ( I always fall in love way too quick, never look for what could be future probs 🙂 Anyway, I am no formal techy geek, but so far from a users point of view, I see no problems.

The program loaded up my trippin blog very easily and quickly, no hassles no fuss.

I suggest you get into the if you are a serious blogger!

Testing BlogJet

I have installed an interesting application – BlogJet. It’s a cool Windows client for my blog tool (as well as for other tools). Get your copy here: http://blogjet.com

In Search of a Free Host

Just when I despaired of finding a good web-host for free, I found this link of many really good hosts and more here. From there I selected two that seem very promising, and not all terrible.

I will add more info as I manage to journey through my selections and get my website up and running. I also hope to take this blog over to a web-host, not that I am not absolutely THANKFUL to wordpress for hosting me, I just hope to use this blog and my others to , well make money.

I have a family that now depends on me to support them and I see no other way but to try any and everything I can, until I find success.

I am not certain I will take this blog though, as it seems that it really belongs right here.

Know Thy Self « Beats Entropy

Know Thy Self « Beats Entropy

This story is truly amazing, it made me see a bit clearer what I Have been mistakenly leaning on in my life. Its a story I think everyone shold read!

California Sunset

This post I made at another blog and I wanted to gain some expsoure for that blog , so I will try this experiment and see if it helps my readership of Odyssey.

Odyssey: California Sunset

an early vote question…. who do you think is the next President?

I am hearing so much about the different people running for President, that I wonder who will end up running the country into the ground next?

I would like very much to see who wants who, so if you are up to it, leave a post for who you want in the office in ’08 and a short reason why.

Who our choices are as of today –

Hillary Clinton

Barrack Obama

John McCain ( she shudders as she types…..ohhhhhhhhhhhhh 😦

Rudolph Giuliani ( YEA!!!!!!! My personal favorite)

Mitt Romney ( who?)

Tommy Thompson

The above are Repubs

Below are the Dems –

Joe Biden ( NOT LIKELY )

John Edwards ( nice man it seems, but I dont know if he can bring fear into a terrorists heart)

Bill Richardson (I like New Mexico, people seem to like to tell it like it is, I have to look into what he is for and what he is against before I say anything smart ass about him)

The we also have Newt Ginrich ( again, not sure if I can trust this one….)

Hillary Clinton ( like her more and more, did not before but I am seeing that she might be the strongest one in the bunch, the question I will have for her is, will you deal with US issues, take care of your citizens.

* I have just emailed Senator Clinton, given her my support. The reason I am doing this?  Please see my next post, about a show on Discovery Times that I just finished watching called 9/11 Toxic Legacy.*

Barack Obama- I do not know much about him, will have a wait and see attitude , however something about him makes me uneasy. I will be an open  person and wait until I have read his blog, which I just took a quick look at, seems well put together at least.

More later on the rest of the possible contenders for the throne. I will make sure to include everyone else websites/blogs as well.
