iphone lust all over for me, and other thoughts

After hearing all the horrible stories of 36 hours to get the iphone set up, and 3.5 hour waits for support… no thanks. It is funny though, to see the thing selling, actually selling for 999.00 on ebay! I had been told there were still plenty of stores that still carry the phone… so what is up with these people wanting to pay almost 2x the current price?

okay, back to wanting my Blackberry. It has all I need, and does all I need without my having to pay an extra 300 dollars a month for service.

On to Linux ~

Saw Chris Pirillos youtube about Sabayon Linux, seems interesting, but I wonder what it has that Ubunut does not??? He makes a case for at least trying it, with the live CD so I will; but I dont think I will ever divorce Fiesty… and its children to come.

Funny thing was, from what I saw in the video of his, the eye candy he was raving over is already on Ubuntu, so what is the difference between?

so check the video out –

Now, I wish someone would help me figure out why Sun’s Looking Glass wont work right for me, its sooo slow. So is Xfce when I turn it on on my pc, what is that about?

My wish list for Ubuntu? Make the compiz-fusion make my windows transparent ( with out having it as the windows manager session) with the cleaner look of xfce and I am a happy camper.

That is it, that is all I wish for, oh and maybe some new eye candy, but what could they come up with? 🙂

talk to you all later……

Ubuntu Update June 14th

Well, I have to admit this right off the bat…. I have redone my pc a few times since I have been a solid Ubuntu user, but let  me clarify why.

Seems that there is a HUGE amount of learning to be done for things beyond the early steps one takes with using a computer. Feisty is a great setup, and 99 percent of what I needed was easily found in the synaptic area, or in automatix. But there were some things that needed tweaking, such as the real player so I could watch Jericho online , and I quickly found out one does not just set up programs willy nilly…. you have got to know what belongs where, and what will or will not work with what. Lots of whats huh.

I am still completely in love with this operating system, its all I could ever ask for and more.

But I need the damn book so I can learn how to move a file from here to there, or how to navigate to your different folders in the terminal, arrrrrrrrrrg that is driving me nuts. And I hope that for the next distro, I think its called; that they figure out a way to  upgrade from the CD without losing all your data.

What do I love the most about Feisty Fawn?

Ummm the eye candy takes the cake! I have so many choices on what I can have running for my desktop…… its mind boggling. Can you tell how much I love using Beryl? Even when that is off, my desktop is gorgeous!  Oh, and the music player Amarok…. too cool. It sets my files up for me all nice and neat and even gets my album covers, how cool is that?

What do I like the least about Feisty Fawn?

That they cant send me a free book 🙂 Yup, that is it.

Funny thing is, I sit here and work everyday on my most loved project * Jericho on CBS* and I wonder how in the world everyone who owns vista, that hard drive space sucking monster does not know about Ubuntu and if they do, why in the world are they still using Vista?

I worry about Vista users, I think they need intervention.

I will be popping in here as much as time allows me to, as Jericho is now more of my time than when it was cancelled. I am thrilled that my show is back, but now its up to us the fans to get this baby promoted to the folks who have not viewed before, and most especially to the Nielsen families.

I have a few thought rambling around about where I want this blog to go, I am thinking of asking a few friends if they would like to guest blog for me for a bit, it would be refreshing to not hear about Ubuntu or Jericho here I know.

I will be back in a day or so with some of my ideas, see you all then!

Owning more than one blog is NUTS :-)

Wow, I have been trying to like a crazed person to keep up on all my blogs, ever since the May 17th cancellation of Jericho by CBS. This whole move by the fans has been a awesome thing to be involved in. Imagine yourself swept away in a History making move like this? Its hard to let  go off, even for a few moments.

I find myself opening like 20 tabs in Firefox ( thank god for Firefox) just to have my blog Jericho~On~CBS open, the CBS Forums open, the various news blogs such as Find The Boots open, all to be able to be on top of any new information and what the flow of conversation is at the moment.

If you want to see history in the making, go on over to either my blog or the online forums, and if you are a fan, please join and help out!

And what is just as cool as this move I am involved in * and that I love so much* is the fact that I actually met another Ubuntu user, who was experiencing the same problems viewing Jericho on CBS site using real player as I was! I was able to get them over the Ubuntu boards for what I feel is a great community of help!

Speaking of Ubuntu, still love my box now…. I mean love! This is almost a religious experience for me now, LOL! Have you tried it? Want to get away from Microslave? Vista killing your machine? Go over to Ubuntu.com and try out Feisty Fawn today, you can either download a ISO and start right now, or you can order a FREE DISK which takes about three weeks to get. I recommend doing that, its better all the way around unless you are like a total geek 🙂

And yes, you read correctly, the whole system is FREE!! And the help you get from the community is also FREE! No call costs for Tech support, there are so many folks over there who are so great at getting you exactly what you need for what ever problems or questions you have. Also, its great that when you post about Ubuntu, other users will find you and help as well.

and more on Ubuntu …..

I was interested in seeing what was being said on Google’s News Search concerning Ubuntu.

I found that on April 26th, there was a security notice concerning 6.06, 6.10 and 7.04. ( I had better make sure I have all that upgraded on my machine)

Here is a nice write up on Ubuntu at ITManagment.com and an even better post at Information Week with some great comments as well.

All in all, I am beginning to read more and more that people are jumping ship from the SS Microsoft. I have to say that even with all the small problems I have had ( and more than likely created myself) and all the reading I have had to do, using Ubuntu is the best thing I have ever done, concerning Computers.

Now, I hope I made my ISO of Edgy correctly, and tomorrow we will see if it takes 🙂

How I have been doing with Ubuntu

Today, I was able to get Enlightenment to work on my PC! I feel so great when I write some code into my terminal and it actually works, now I am still being patient because as bad as I want to get Beryl working on here, I know how it does not work on Dapper. I just have to wait for those disks to get here * I wonder, how long will it really take?*

I just need to find a tutorial or help file that will show me how to install more themes into Enlightenment, as the three I have now, while nice, are not what I am looking for. My next level to jump to is getting Blackbox on here. I had it on windows, used it exclusively and love it alot. I just don’t think it has transparent windows, which is what my ultimate goal is.

I love how much faster my computer is now as well, except that in Dapper the Firefox just crawls. I have a 6Mb broadband line, and 2 MB of ram, my computer should scream along at all times.

In other news from my part of the world, I have been banging my head against a brick wall concerning monetizing my blogs on Blopspot. I have Kontera, textlinks, Google Adsense; and yet I don’t seem to get the special *thing* that makes one’s blog reader numbers jump through the roof.

I also have a project that I am working on that I need to work getting finalized by the end of this month beginning of next.

It has been a bumpy ride with Ubuntu ( but I still love it)

I have not been here to post for a few days because in my infinite wisdom, I tried to upgrade from Ubuntu Dapper to Edgy Eft, then upgraded again to Feisty Fawn and then I tried to hook up Beryl. Well, this went on for two whole days before I got the memo, things were not working right. In Feisty, everything seemed well, and before I had a chance to get Beryl on it , I rebooted my system and then my internet was gone!

I think that it was the fact that I downloaded the two upgrades instead of patiently waiting for the disks. Now, I have Dapper working well, and I will leave it as it is until the disks for both upgrades come. I ordered Edgy on the 13th and it shipped the 14th, tho I hear that it can be a few weeks before I see it. Not a problem.

Now, if I could only find a guide that will walk me through getting Beryl on this machine after I  use the disks. I have used the forum but there are so many people with so many different situations that they are using Beryl in, that I am not sure which applies to me.

I see that my graphics card will work, but I am unsure of whether I am supposed to get a different driver ( I have an ATI Radeon 7000/Ve) When I use the terminal I see that I do have 3D rendering, so if anyone has a clue whether I can just download Beryl and use it without further drivers, I would love to hear about it.

I really only want to have the transparent windows that Berly offers, so this is important to me. Hope that I can figure out what to do.

Ubuntu is on – now how to set up Beryl

I have Ubuntu on here, like it so far, intimidating  with the way I have to load the files, so that is next to learn.
