Did God leave us ?

On Sunday last, I was reading my Google homepage, and saw a message from Associated Content, someone had emailed me! I was excited and rushed right into my account to see this  message, and then I was presented with what had to be the worst thing I had ever read.( I don’t mean the way the article is written or how it is presented either, the article – Director James Cameron to Debunk Christianity Monday was actually written quite well)

The article is about James Cameron and his “Discovery” of Jesus and family. I am a Born again Christian, and from what tiny bit I have learned in the last almost three years is that my relationship with God is based solely on something called faith.

James Cameron almost stole the one thing I hold most dear ( beyond my kids of course) my tiny mustard seed of faith.

I admit, for about an hour, I was angry and scared and my mustard seed was shrinking at a fast pace. But my daughter came to my rescue, and I realized something. I have a choice in my faith, I can choose to believe this is what Mr Cameron states it is, or I can choose to believe in my faith in God.

I choose to believe in my God. I also believe in my education that cost me almost 75,000 after all the interest etc spiked up on my student loans. As a trained Anthropologist, there are some major problems with this “find” that Mr Cameron will have to deal with. And presenting this major find of the century on Discovery Channel, HUGE blunder! Stating as he and his team have done, that they have DNA evidence is purely arm chair archaeology. This is the worst thing that comes from Discovery Channel, the watered down , stated for the masses science that they pour out like bathwater. For over 4 years, every single day, I dealt with skeletal remains. I know what will need to be done for proper DNA testing as well. This is far from a done deal, I can hardly believe that the Scientific Community at large is not calling for an investigation into this circus.

If one wants to come at this find as a real scientific project, then those who lead the teams had better be ready to put out their findings in journals. And be prepared for much investigation, even from scientists who are NOT religious. This find took over 20 years to even make it to the light of day, I have seen far more important finds laughed right out of the room for taking too many weeks to expose to the light of day!

One way or the other, I will for one will be waiting to listen to those who are in the field , who know what they are speaking about. I will wait for the debates by real research leaders. And I will continue to hold fast to my faith with all my heart!

Now, I think I know how Mr. Cameron got so lucky to have found the Titanic, 🙂

PC update

Well, my RAM arrived this afternoon, so tonight it all gets put in and tomorrow I will be back on and blogging like a crazed woman 🙂 Of course there are many many topics I have to speak about, but I also need to sit and think them over before I put finger to keyboard, anyway, see you all tomorrow

Taking Risks…. a post at JohnChow.com.

For the last few days, I have been reading and re-reading the posts over at John Chows Blog – and tonight this post title ” Everyone Should Take More Risks” really got my attention because I am in the process of learning to be a risk taker. I am not talking of the idiot moves of my youth, those that were not well thought out, or had any real future outcome other than pain. I am talking about stepping out in faith, with the knowledge that one can actually make a plan and go forward and act on that plan.  More

Could the freedom of speech we hold so dear ever be taken away?

What possible reason would there be to ever take the freedom of speech we all hold so dear away from us?

Could it be that due to behaviours such as we see exhibited by the Westboro Baptist Church, protesting funerals with obnoxious words, terrorizing the families as they go one last time to say good bye to their loved ones?

I found this article from the Great Falls Tribune online via my Google homepage under news:

Montana’s State House Committee has a bill before it that will limit protesters to being able to do thier thing one hour before a funeral, and they would have to stay 1500 feet away from the funeral. Now, in my mind, these idiots do NOT deserve one iota of the freedoms given to good American citizens, but my Constitution states it is for ALL who come here, ALL who are Americans; and so I have to rethink this whole process. To my mind, they ( the Kansas HATRED CLUB aka Westboro Baptist Church) as disgusting as they are, as low and devoid of any humanity as they seem to be, have the same rights to free speech as we all do.

So this begs the question – When is it too much free speech? Where is the line drawn? What will the catalyst be , the final ” you’ve gone to far”? Did the writers of these freedoms ever sit down and consider a time when these same freedoms would be tested beyond their original intent?

In their day, such behavior was cause for both punishment on a legal arena and a moral arena. I am not even sure that this type of “protest” has ever been done before these religious fanatics came along. If there are any sociology majors out there who could enlighten me with statistics, that would be great.

My biggest fear is that because of these people, the freedoms I hold dear, the freedoms that people have died for, will be taken away, because these types are using our own Constitutional Rights against us! In order to stop them legally, will it be necessary to take the freedom of speech away completely, or the freedom to practice religion?

In some of the Native American tribes, a formal legal system was not needed, all the control of behavior was done by the group as a whole, through such means as turning their backs and ignoring the offender. This was usually enough to control the behaviors of the whole, as no one wanted to be ignored especially when it was time to share in the resources of the tribe.

Can these people be controlled by such means? Obviously not, and they are smart. The entire family, from what I can gather are Lawyers. The man who started the church Fred Phelps himself was a lawyer. He and the rest of the family knows enough to be able to work around the law pretty well.

If we can not find a different way than through legal routes, we will be staring the loss of our rights right in the face! Now, I feel the pain of those who fight for the right to have guns. I have to wonder, there are two freedoms now on the table as targets, what freedoms will be next?

Senate fails to get needed 60 votes

Ok, now after wasting a perfectly good Saturday when they knew they were going to fail to get the votes, the Senate failed to get the 60 votes they needed. This vote was ” a procedural decision” CNN states ,about whether or not the Senate should go to a final vote on the resolution to show “opposition to Bush’s plans to get more soldiers in Iraq.

The US Senate – votes for non binding resolution

So, what exactly does this mean for us? Not too much from what I gather.( Not that I am proficient in Politics, I am a newbie) I was up this morning watching a repeat of their session from Feb 15th on CSPAN. I watched as the Republican Senator Mitch McConnell from Kentucky and Sen McCain did this Lucy – Ethel routine on the floor for a few minutes, stating that they have never heard of such bad behavior in the Senate, that they wanted to be able to vote for their resolutions too, etc.
* petulant children, and these are the best we can for our Senators?*

Oh and Senator McConnell? I for one was a tad embarrassed for your behavior when you were speaking to the Senator from WV, Robert Byrd; you were very rude! The man deserved your respect just from the fact that he has been on the floor of the Senate since  1946! I was raised by my Mother to be polite to my elders, wern’t you? You did not show off Kentucky in a good light when you acted like that.

So, here is some of  the text of the Resolution that they discussed: ( careful, once you are on this page, you can gain access to the GOP PDF of their responses, and it is not a multi page PDF rather a web based page per page document, really slow to open)

And here are some words spoken and kept ( gotta love the US Senate and Library of Congress, you can see every single thing these folks say and do, each day) here at the Library of Congress Website, and which you can find under the heading of S1916.

And if you really want to see what they are about to argue over, vote for and against, check this out;

The Senate Calendar of Business.

Tonight, on the Glenn Beck show, which I only watched a few minutes of before putting my Buffy the Vampire Slayer-Season 7 DVDs in; was going to town as usual, but he said one thing that was correct. We can not ask the soldiers to fight, to kill in our name, and then tell them that though we believe in them, their mission is not worthy !

This “non-binding resolution” is just one more sign to the rest of the world that we are idiots, and have no clear idea of what we did starting this war, nor what we can do to get ourselves out of it. I feel that the Senate, and the Congress are just doing as they always do, they are wasting time until the next group of folks comes along. If you watch CSPAN for more than a few days, you will begin to see exactly how your Congressmen, Senators act!

They have to know they are being televised, yet it seems not to matter to them. They sat there this morning, and acted as if this was not a serious problem in need of immediate attention. Some Senators ( names not being said here 🙂 really only care about how they can get into the Presidency. Ok, I will say a name, McCain.

Here is what I think ( and since this in my blog, I get to voice my opinion ):

1. We need to do some radical attitude adjustments in Iraq, did we learn nothing from Viet Nam?

2.  We need to make Mr Bush and his compatriots accountable for all this mess, after all they are the reason we are in this “war”, they have lied to the people on numerous occasions, now they need to fess up.

3. We need to find Osama and kick his ass in front of every wanna be terrorist, and let them see once and for all, the might we in the USA still have.

4. We need to give every solider and their families what they deserve, no taxes for life, a new house, what ever. They are the only saving grace in this whole mess, them and the innocent people in Iraq who have become embroiled in this prom we are all at.

OK, this was my daily patriotic missive, hope to hear others points of view.♥

7,000 Iraqi refugees to come to US

Well, I can not say I am happy for them. Their homes are being destroyed, their lives destroyed and their children’s futures are almost over before they have begun. Those who have read some of my other comments, might be waiting for my “not here” comments; however you would be waiting in vain.

I had the privilege of having lived in Iran for a few years, back in the 1970’s. I loved the country, its people, its culture, its sights, the bazaars, the smells ( I could go on). I look at Iraq on the newscasts, and see hints of Iran there, not many I admit, but enough. So, I have an affinity for the people. I feel sorry for them, these 7000 people have no desire to pick up, leave their families, their homes, their dead to come to a morally different country. The struggle will be immense for them, even with the support they hopefully will receive from the Muslim Community here in the US.

I know what it is like, to go to a culture so different, as different as night is from day. It is very hard to do. Their are language barriers, feeling isolated and especially now and here in the US they will feel the hatred of many people being directed at them. They will no doubt feel fear as well, after all when one goes against the grain in their country, they tend to end up dead or worse.

I wish to tell the incoming 7000 Iraq people welcome. I hope in the end, whether you stay here permanently, or go home ( which I know is going to be your most desired wish) that you end up finding something to love and remember fondly, just as I did in Iran. Not all of us Americans blame or hate you, and if you give us a chance, we might become friends 🙂

And, please remember we in our hearts, no matter how badly handled really just want to help, not harm.

And for the Americans who read this:

Remember, if you do not wish to be blamed for what your government does all around the world ( which is what terrorist groups are doing to us) then don’t blame these innocent people for what some have done. And don’t bring them into the immigration discussion, because these are two different animals.

Lets all be nice, show what Americans are really like ok?
