Today I learned ….

Ok, this post is going to be long, as in long winded. That being said, I feel that this upcoming post will be about some of the most important pieces of information that every American needs to know. This upcoming post is going to concern three main topics; 1. The United States Constitution, 2. The Military Commission Act, and 3. Habeas Corpus.

I plan to think this post over very carefully before I ad my two cents here, since my main point will be that the American Public ( academia not included) does not know what their constitution guarantees them, nor do they even know what it contains. This will make you agree, I am sure; that we as parents, as well as educators need to stop teaching our students feel good classes, and get back to basics. How can anyone vote properly when we do not know what we really are agreeing to?

Until I post, I would like to mention a blog that I tripped across, one that made me accept how extremely un-American I have been in not paying attention to what my government has been up to. The blog I am referring to is linked to here, see left panel, and is called Incompetence Inc, please read that blog and then go to Wikipedia for their inserts on your Constitutional rights, and after look up their article on the Military Commission Act. Of interest should be how the house vote went on this Act. Of most important note, see Article One of the Constitution concerning Habeas Corpus, which this Military Commissions Act has removed for certain portions of society, and it seems may one day seek to remove for other reasons as well. Did you know exactly what this Act contained? Were you contacted by your elected officials in reference to this act? Did you know about it at all?

Read the history behind other Acts made by past presidents, that removed rights of certain groups of civilians , all in the name of protecting Americans.
Please, do not email here yelling about how I am un- American, because I am a true red, white, and blue American. I am doing my patriotic duty to discuss this topic as well as any others that I feel may in any way change what my country was started for, FREEDOM.

As I mentioned, I will be back later tonight with my thoughts on this Act and some other things that tie into this Act.

until my post, God Bless America, God Bless and be with ALL our troops, where ever they may be, and God Bless this world.

well, I am back. I took a wonderful walk with my kids again, just over 10 miles now for us in five days!!!

So, as I mentioned above, there is a problem here with this Act. I am trying to understand how we can subjugate a certain group of peoples as we did in WWII, when we saw how horrible this turned out? I feel every day we are losing more and more of our freedoms. We are letting the terroirsts have what they wanted in the first place. The way I see it, they are so used to living as an unfree people, that they are slightly pissy over our freedoms. So, in their childlike manner (sorry to children everywhere for that analogy, but I just can’t find one that is not inappropriate to use here) they decide to take ours away. How? Not just by bombs, and planes driven into buildings, but by eating away at our liberties. They do this with this fear of more attacks.

I am angry about this for sure. I felt we should have bombed the snot out of someone, anyone the day of the attacks, I do not believe we did not know who exactly was behind that attack that day. To have waited was stupid in my humble opinion. I do not wait to chastise my children when they have done wrong, because that is not going to work, when they have done wrong they hear about it as soon as it has happened. Our governemtn claims we are safe from bombs and more attacks brought about by things brought into our country, yet we see daily how truckloads of drugs ( I mean semi trucks here folks) are brought into this country every day. How do I know this? Well, just do a simple search of news organizations across the country and look for drug busts.

Our leaders, the people who have been voted in, they are dropping the ball on us big time. I looked at the wikipedia entry for the Military Commissions Act, and the votes it took to pass it were like so:

Final Passage in the Senate

Party AYE NAY ABS
Republicans 53 1 0
Democrats 12 33 1
Total 65 34 1

Final Passage in the House

Party AYE NAY ABS
Republicans 218 7 5
Democrats 32 162 7
Independent 0 1 0
Total 250 170 12

To me these numbers seem so wrong, are there really that many American voters who agree with this?

I wonder if there is some kind of poll, to compare these votes with concerning what the Americans think now?

It is Latin for “you have the body”, and has its beginnings in England in the mid 1300’s. It is associated with common law countries. It use in American law, when a prisoner who files a writ of habeas corpus, it is then taken to a court, and the prison holding the person must appear to the court and it is then determined if the person being held is being held lawfully or not. In other words, when you are arrested and put in prison, if you are innocent, this is a way of demanding your day of justice on whether they can hold you or not.

Do you know that the Article in the Constitution concerning Habeas Corpus is Article one?

Did you know that now under this Military Commissions Act, this right has been just about stripped out of the law of the land? Now, you may say, no not for me; I am an American citizen. Well, the funny thing about our country at least up till now is, we gave our rights to ALL who are here, not just us. That is what makes us special and such a grand place.

Until now that is, until now.

My comment earlier about schools, simple really. Teach the kids about their government, not in snippets that least a semester, but each semester. Make them know what their rights are, where they go to look them up ( no not the internet either, in a book. You remember books, paper sheets fastened together inside a binded container). Ask you children what they know of the constitution, bill of rights. Ask your leaders who you voted in how they feel about each of your rights in the Constitution, and do not let them gloss over their answers.

OK, I am done for now, but watch out… I may have much more on this topic soon.

Halloween fast approaches

Hello again

Well, the second most important holiday to a child is fast approaching, Halloween. This always makes me think about my number one favorite scary movie of all time “Halloween” with Jamie Curtis. The first time I saw this movie was in the Sunnyvale Drive in with a boy who I at the time thought was a real cutie. About half way through the movie he goes from the car to the food area, leaving me alone. While he was gone, I was so engrossed in the movie ( I think it was the part where Michael was trying to get at Jamie and the kids in the closet) that I never noticed my “date” coming back to the car, and next thing I knew…. he pops up in my window with some type of mask on. Needless to say, we all know what I nearly did then 🙂 This movie has the ability to scare me even today, and I LOVE to get scared by it.

The part where Michael is behind them while they are on the couch, well…… sends shivers up my spine even now. And so, if it can be managed, this is the one and only movie I will watch on Halloween night, unless my girls find a channel playing Hocus Pocus with Bette Midler. Don’t get me wrong, love that film too, one of Bette’s better films. So, alright, there are TWO movies that are musts in my house for this holiday, just make sure if you watch these, that you choose to watch Halloween when its late, and the house is dark, and oh yeah….. don’t do your laundry then!

Firefox update

Okay, so far not so bad, has one HUGE thing I love, spell check!!! In any platform you write in ( like in here) it spell checks as you type, awesome. One bad thing I have noticed is, I can’t find my email icon, its no where. It is not even an option when you go into where you can choose the icons you want to add to the tool bar.

If anyone knows how to find this MIA icon, please tell me, I am lost without my instant access to my email, as a matter of fact, I don’t even remember how to find on my pc anymore ( no, only kidding, but it makes more work for me to go hunting the darn thing down, since I run Blackbox on my computer….. oh well 🙂

If you want to update your Firefox, even with the email issue, I would suggest it, as usual when ever IE comes out with an update, its horrid, and Firefox always has something great in it.

Walking away more than pounds.

Today I went for a really great walk with  my oldest daughter, we had a blast! And even better, I was able to walk a bit faster than she thought I would ( I think she was proud of me 🙂 While on the walk, I of course, took photos. The colors that I had thought would be gone after the cold and rain a few days ago, were still to be seen. Some colors were just spectacular , reds that stood out against oranges and browns. There were quite a few baby cows to be seen in the fields as well.

It came to me while on the way back, that this place was really very pretty. Country life is good, if one has the means to live here. I thought about how it was probably the same as it was say 100 years or more ago. Yes, more houses, more people, but still the same ground, same hills, and the same weather. Sometimes, I wish I had been born back then, I know there were more diseases, more deaths from things we now are protected from, but I really think that there was more love, more friendliness in the towns. I am sorry that today when my kids and I take a walk, we have to think carefully about what to do if a stranger were to come and bother us while we are out on that road. I think alot while I am walking, since talking is not so easy while you are huffing and puffing, 🙂

The end result of todays walk,? I will take one everyday, and I wont let the fear of the ‘what-ifs’ get to me. I just have to live and be happy. And I will make sure to take one of my kids, so we can laugh like we did today, it was pure tonic for my soul and I am so grateful to have had this time, these memories that can not be taken from me.

So, I walk for more than the weight loss value, I walk for my life, the life I would not trade for anything.

cheers  ~ 🙂 ~

This is a test post from flickr, a fancy photo sharing thing.

This just can’t be for real…. Katrina funds earmarked to pay for Bush brothers software program???

In a phone call with my Mom this am, she told me about something completely outrageous, and so I did a search, and the first link I came upon happened to be from PBS.org.. I will enter a synopsis here, and let you either make a decision to read on or ignore what is happening to the country.

In an article from The HoustonChronicle by Cynthia L. Garza, titled “Katrina funds earmarked to pay for Niel Bush’s software program.

Seems Mrs. Bush donated an undisclosed amount of cash to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund with specific (emphasis on word here mine)  instructions that the money be spent with an educational software company owned by her son Neil.

If you want the entire report, either link to PBS to read the copy here, or go to the Houston Chronicle website and read it there, but what ever you do , JUST READ it. I have a feeling that as much as the Internet frees us to have more information  at our finger tips, it also keeps much from us. If the leading news organizations don’t see merit in a story, they might not post it to their websites and update pages, so if you happen to get feeds from say CNN, or  any of the other news organizations, you might not see these types of reports. Thank  goodness for my Mom, she keeps me informed.

We, as Americans had better start paying attention to these little pieces of news, the items that seem to be slipping under the radar. This might seem not so dangerous to us now , but what other news items are we missing?

Jane Wyatt gone but never forgotten.

I am old enough to really remember watching Jane Wyatt on television. I recall that she was a Mom, what I always thought was the way a Mom was supposed to be. Today, sadly Jane Wyatt died , peacefully at her home. She was 96, and has a resume that would make one think she never rested during her long and lovely life. While I was at the CNN website on the article , I was surprised to read that once, she was asked by President Rososevelt to host the Bolshoi Ballet while in the US to do a show, and that this later earned her blacklisting from the crowd under the wing of Senator McCarthy and his Un-American Activities Committee during the 1950’s. Kind of makes me think about what we are slowly evovling into now, with the new laws being inacted by the current president and company. Can this ever happen again? Yes, sadly it can, and may be, right under our very noses.

Jane Wyatt was on a show about an American Family, one that I had always thought was the end all be all, for family life. I had always wanted that, not that my own family was anyless loving or took bad care of me. They were wonderful and all a family should be, and still are. I just mean that, it was a sense of peace and happiness one got when watching her on that show. I think it is a shame that now, we don’t have that peace filled family life, we are too busy, too busy working, and running, and and and…

Rest in peace Jane, we will miss you, but you had a wonderful life, and left some of us with some absolutly wonderful memories, thank you.
