Open Designs back in business

Open Designs is back online after a bit of a hiatus. Not sure of the technical reasons, server issues I think. I am just really glad to have them back online, I missed seeing the new designs each day, such as Logistix; a nice calming yellow and black design. Check them out, if you are in the market for a new  design or are just trying to learn the whole design process. These folks are really helpful and nice to chat with, even if you are   a newcomer to web design.

IN other news * :-) * I have begun the process  of moving my WordPress log for the CBS show Jericho over to a new home, if you are a fan check it out.

Violence on the Internet

zero-violenceblog-tn.jpg

What is the above about?

Yesterday when I had a post all planned out to decry the War ( I was getting my 60s inner child and letting her come out and play for a bit) and demand President Bush step down, I for some reason went to Scobleizer to check out whether he had any posts of interest for the day. What I read at his blog was horrid, as mind numbing as any war violence, in fact even more so because this is one person hurting another for NO REASON at all. He has a post that he will be leaving in its position at top for the week, concerning a friend of his who has been the victim of a crime of violence.

In an effort to not exploit this persons private life anymore than it already has been, I will not post her name, but you can get the facts of this crime here at Robert Scoble’s blog, where he lists the basics of the story and links to further info.
Please read the post I am linking to, and if you feel you have any helpful suggestions that we as members of the Blog Community can work with to stop this, let me or someone know! I was told once the we bloggers are a powerful force, able to effect change in any corner of the world and any situation; if only we would exert ourselves for it. This means we need to talk about the topic of violence being done via the dark corners of blogs, communities, boards you name it. Is there an answer? Not one that we can implement right now, other than to turn these people ( I use that term for lack of a better one) into the law enforcement agencies. I am a bit scared that as this behavior grows, we will begin to see people asking for some type of web ID, and that leads to censorship in my mind.

Today, one can literally say anything one wants to anyone they wish, and have not too much fear of reprisal, either the person being hurt does not want to deal with the issue any more, or they have no idea that they “can deal with it. Most people do not understand that threats of violence via the internet is still illegal threatening, same as if I were to walk up and spew hate speech on some person on the street.

To the person who suffered through this crime -

I only know you via your posts on your blog. I recall the first time I read a post you wrote called “what you do affects what you think” and I commented on it here.

This was the first time I really saw that blogs were for more than mere talk, that the internet, and blogs were for discussions , where the exchange of ideas could lead to learning. I learned something from you that day, and on other days when I came back to your blog and read other posts you put up. I sincerly hope that you will not end your postings, your blog gives to the world in a healthy way. I am so sorry for you that someone had to feel the need to become a predator, and choose you as their victim.

I pray that you will see how much you obviously mean to the whole blogging community .

Addon – My apologies for not stating where I got the above graphic from, that was an unintentional slip of the mind ( I am old, older than dirt :-) The graphic was supplied most graciously by Ron at brandcurve.com, you can get your own there as well to show support.

Two songs that will get you in the mood to……….

1.- Ready, Steady, Go - the Korean Mix by Paul Oakenfold ( not the other) this is the one that actually “was” in the movie Collateral with Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise ( oh oh, she put Jamie Foxx before Tom )

2. BattleFlag by Lo Fidelity Allstars featuring Pidegonhed ( most know from Coyote Ugly). Two powerful, head thuppin, heart rendering pieces of music. Listen and then tell me you can’t do your work :-)

At both the links I put here, you can actually listen to the songs!

This is me, gotta have the serious music. Big thanks to my husband for putting my stereo speakers directly to my computer, LOL now I can make the walls really move! I have more music I love but today, right now, its these two.

Bugatti Veyron does 253 MPH ~ Sunday Brunch

I think from now on, on Sundays I will give a brunch of news that I find interesting , keeps my restful day a happy day, and still lets me blog :-)

So with out further ado – Sunday Brunch #1

1. Bugatti Veyron – the car of my dreams ( sorry GP, but I found a new honey) this baby does 253 mph! Here is a video where you can see this sweetheart do her thing on the track! It is literally the fastest production car in the world! BIG thanks to John Chow for putting this video link on his blog today :-) I love this car, it is what I hope Santa brings me for Christmas this year.

2. I go daily to a website called the Daily Slurp, it is a virtual website design heaven, full of colors and styles galore. You get to curse over each website and get a peek and then if the design, colors, what have you grab your attention, you can click into the site as well! I originally found this site via the website Design Meltdown, which is itself a great design learning repository. While at the Daily Slurp, I found this site, Ventbox; a place to go and vent about what ever. Neat idea.

3. I read over at the Official Google Blog that they had a Doggie Day at their Kirkland Offices, this solidifies more in my heart the longing to work at Google , in any capacity what so ever; bathroom cleaner, parking lot attendant, ideas? The Dogs ( and their owners) were treated to a day of Doggy pampering, and a chance to do a greet and meet with other ‘Dooglers’ ( Google’s name for the Dogs)best part was that they even got a Google Security Badge! Check out the rest of the story using the link provided above.

Halo 2 ~ If ya want to get schooled by the girlies play the AoD clan

My daughter is a Halo Queen (Goddess, numerous uno sniper what ever you call her). She is really pretty snappy with a gun, cranky sometimes if she has played for too long, but effective. Would make an awesome contribution to the army, if I were to ever fall down, hit my head and forget I don’t like them.

Anyway, she has a become a part of called AoD Killerbabes, a collection of sharp shooting ladies with tons of attitude and major power to kick the guys butts. I have included the link in my blogroll, and in this post as well. If you are looking to have your butt kicked by some powerful, talented chicks, check out their clan on the Xbox ( yep, thats a challenge) .

I forgot to add the AoD Killerbabes clan myspace page , so here is you go :-)

The Good Google giveth and taketh away………..

Well , today I saw over at Engadget that the rumored ( I will have to get used to using that word in my posts whenever it is about a new tech gadget) Google Phone seems to be a pipe dream. So, we get a nice new desktop with pretty themes, but probably lose a potentially great phone. I see why they may nix the idea at Google, it would not be a great idea to go out in battle with so many other phones already fighting each other for customers. It was such a  nice idea, though. I would love to see the whole world filled with Google Ideas, products. Funny that I hate Walmart and Microsoft for the same reasons, they have taken over the world.

But I don’t like them because I do not like thier business principles, practices and products.

At least in Engadget’s post about the Google phone, it was stated that Google did not come out and deny the whole idea completely.  I wonder what the next idea ( rumored or not) Google has will be?

Google does it again, they gave me graphical happiness!

This change from Google is awesome! I am one of those people who needs to have colors and graphics to make my work day strong! I opened Google to my personalized homepage this morning to find that I could now have the beach right there at my fingertips! And if I feel the need to change that view ( and those who come here regular and see how often I change my template here know this of me) I can change the theme to something that fits my mood! I hope they make many more themes, the choices are great so far, but Google I want more!

The beach is nice, because the view changes with your local time, from night to day :-) Is this a cool feature or what? Google never misses a beat.

If anyone at Google is reading this blog, I will happily clean bathrooms for the pleasure of working with your company! <hint, hint>

A New player in the Real Estate game – Redfin

I try to read Robert Scoble’s blog, Scobleizer at least once a day because there is always something interesting and sometimes there is even a post about something I actually know about – today was one of those days. Mr. S has a post about a new Real Estate Company, Redfin with a totally new twist on the game of buying and selling a house. I do not always watch Robert’s videos, but this time I did and I am very glad I did.

Redfin is an online service for buying and selling your house , located in Washington state and California. I went to the site and checked it out, because I happen to spend a great deal of time viewing listings on two large Real Estate Websites, a Santa Cruz Co Coldwell Banker site and also Ziprealty.com. I had learned along time ago that 90 percent of the real estate services online leave much to be desired and both of the afore mentioned companies gave me what I was looking for, a deep look into the homes and all the date about the house I needed to know.

Now, with Redfin, there is so much more to find out about the house. The user experience is rich, with more details available to the user such as previous selling prices listed per year, so one can see the way the home grew in value; as well as Zillow.com property valuations. The description of the house is very complete as well.

I am not saying I will stop visiting my favorite company, but with this service there is a place to go for further information as needed.

One idea that was presented on the video interview was that this company refunds 2/3 of the commission! This can be applied either to closing costs or the down-payment. The agents you deal with at Redfin are not paid on commission either, rather they are paid a bonus based on customer satisfaction, this means that you can rest easy knowing that the agent will not be pushing a house on the buyer that may not be a great deal for them.

If you are buying or selling a home and want to explore doing this with less cost than you would have with a traditional Real Estate Co, I suggest you give Redfin a look; I think you will be happy you did.

John Chow presents “Irrefutable mathematical proof that girls are evil!”

Love the way this “proof” was presented on John Chows blog :-) .This would be far funnier to me, if I was not the mom of three teenage girls, one who is 25 and one 6 year old grand-baby. Tho, out of the whole gaggle of hens that I own, the grand-baby is the sweetest of them all :-)

* Nooooo, all my girls are sweet, and I am thankful that I have had the pleasure of being their mom all these years, love you girls, as well as my boys.

The mathematical formula he presents on his blog is worthy of more strenuous investigation, I feel that some variables were left out. I await further write ups on this hypothesis LOL.

Heard of AGLOCO?

I know I have referred to John Chow Dot Com a few times lately, but this is one post that concerns something I am really trying to do and that is make serious money from the internet. I do not really want to deal with fly by night scams, or typing for dollars, you can see my views on that on my page concerning working from home scams.

This post is about AGLOCO, something I have seen mentioned on Johns blog many many time’s, since I have his RSS feed on my google homepage. I wondered half hearted what that was ( I say half heartedly, because sometimes I think that I can never digest and do what he reports on his blog). Today, since I was spending so much time on his blog reading, I decided to look into what this AGLOCO was all about, and boy am I ever glad I did.

Some years ago, while I was in school at Eastern Kentucky University, I signed up for a program AllAdvantage. It was a search bar that you could use and be paid for how many hours of searching you did. It failed for me, simply because at that time I did not have a very good computer, and a terrible line to my house. And the fact that I was doing 18 semester hours, made my life a bit over done anyway.

Ok, back to my tale. Long and short of it, I never did anything with the darn program.

Today, I read in the various posts of John’s concerning AGLOCO, that this is the same old program all gussied up, or rather the same company with a new face. If you would like to know more about this program, I suggest you begin by reading all of Johns posts about AGLOCO, which you can access by his blog. I would suggest beginning with this post and working your way forward in time in his posts.

And if you want to see how well I manage with this , mosey on over to my other blog for the discussions – http://kystorms-odyssey.blogspot.com/. I plan on linking to this post and writing a page just for this program, I may even make pie charts! * I love pie charts*

So .. ya’ll come on over ya hear?
